Movin’ On Up
Our numbers keep on growing! Last month set a new record. We are really excited that you all come out and make this so worthwhile for us to put on every month. The best news is that after expenses we are able to give money back to the community. We are proud to be able to help sponsor the stage at our local pride event on Saturday, July 18 in Evergreen Park. That is also the date of our Pride Party, which should be huge based on the crowds we’ve been seeing. I am impressed with the diversity we are seeing every month. We attract a good mix of men and women. Oh and some great queer friendly folks too. The crazy thing last month was that we shot up to 100 people within the first hour the doors were open. Our average for this year is 150 party people up from 100 last year. Thanks to all of you for getting the word out. A popular phrase is “how did I not know about this.” A special shout out to Bill W. at Seattle Gay Scene for blogging about Red Star to his readers. It is an awesome one-stop source for area nightlife. I subscribe to the RSS feed and keep up on the latest happenings. Check it out!
We’ve seen an increase every month this year. This month should be no exception and to ensure it is bigger than ever we are bringing in DJ Matt Stands. Matt is a resident DJ at Seattle’s Cuff Complex and at Everett’s Twisted. We are really excited to bring him across the pond for his Red Star debut. We had a great turn out this past Satuday night with a slew of boys in their Red Star T-shirts went to Spring Thaw at the Cuff and had a blast.
Come out and see us for MAYDAY on Friday, May 1st. Doors open at 9pm and we stay open till 2am. This event is 21 and over. Cover is $5 at the door. Drinks are really reasonably priced. The bar is cash only. There is a typical bar ATM downstairs and a WaMu ATM located on the same block.
Enter the Eagles upstairs at 205 6th street. If you drive, there is plenty of parking available in the area. Most of it is free and the word on the street is that the nearby pay-lots are not checked that late. The lot next to the Eagles on Washington is reserved for their members – the good people who allow us to turn their hall in to a big gay bar. If you come by boat the brand new Bremerton Marina is gorgeous!
Our events are usually held on the First Friday of each month which coincide with the Downtown Bremerton Art Walk. Come on down and check out the galleries all just a short walk from the party. There are some great places to catch a bite to eat. There is the Anthony’s by the ferry, New Delhi Indian Cuisine and a favorite of mine El Coral Mexican on 4th.
Get a room! The Hampton Inn & Suites has some great rates. It is located next to the ferry terminal on the waterfront only blocks from the party. I just called to check and there is plenty of availability. They support Red Star by giving us great rates to put up our out of town disc jockeys. Let me know if you stay there–sometimes I need a place to crash. Just kidding.
Michael
P.S. I am super excited to have DJ Matt Stands – it gives me the night off to hang out with all you beautiful people!
